SUMMARY:The Mayor’s Race – Screening Easton Community Centre
DESCRIPTION:Another Bristol screening, this time in East Bristol where Loraine Blumenthal’s feature documentary about Marvin Rees is set. The story gives some idea of this character from the ‘ghetto’ and where he is coming from.\nAfter some years in the job, there are many questions to ask about the role and his impact but before that there were questions about identity and Bristol itself. Is Marvin too sensitive about the issues of race and identity? Why does it play such a featured role in his time in office? What difference does it make to the city? Maybe his story, as rendered in this creative, award-winning documentary film will give some insight. The event will include a Q & A and some creative provoking with the film’s co-Producer, Rob Mitchell.\nThe Mayor’s Race begins up in 2012, with the election race heating up and Marvin wondering if he is even worthy to stand. It takes us through a story about a city on a journey to change its reputation. In 2019, we can reflect on the difference between then and now.\n
