This film looks at how Bristol acknowledges its role in transatlantic slavery for the first time in 1999 – 2000. There is an exhibition in the City Museum, Pero’s Bridge is name and opened with much civic pomp and ceremony and the story begins to unfold into the city’s consciousness. Director Shawn Sobers and Presenter Rob Mitchell speak to activists, artists, academics and curators to understand the significance on these action in Bristol.
This was the first and founding production of Firstborn, which later grew into Firstborn Creatives and Firstborn Studios. Dr Shawn Sobers was also a key collaborator on The Mayor’s Race film (2018), alongside Loraine Blumenthal and Rob Mitchell.
